What's it about?

There's no guide book. There's no guidebook someone hands you when you think, "Hey! I may not be straight!" or, "I'm don't know that I fit into the traditional gender norms". There's no guide book as to what to know to be a good ally. But this book is close. This is a collection of information and facts about sexuality, sex, gender, coming out and the community from terminology, statistics, tips and tricks.

Thoughts:

This book proved to be a great resource for understanding the reality of not fitting into gender and sexuality societal "norms". I was especially thankful for the delivery of the information. I know that these topics can be awkward, heavy and scary but the delivery between these pages was filled with humor and understanding. It's not preachy or care free. They use humor and personal experiences to convey information and when the Ms. Juno felt like she was not as familiar with a topic, she called in reinforcements that were.

I also deeply respected the way they tackled topics like sex. This must have been tricky as this is a YA book and, lets face it, most of us are not in the habit of encouraging our teens to run out and have sex. But it's important topic, one that should be addressed, needs to be addressed. And they did so beautifully, reminding readers that it's totally okay to decide not to have sex. It's not the most important part of a relationship and there are plenty of other ways to be intimate with your partner while still discussing sex as a positive experience and still not forgetting to discuss STI's or other pieces of information that could be unhealthy for participants which I loved.

At the end of the day, was most of the book mind blowing to me? No. But I did learn a lot from it...I just already had a lot of the information. But would I happily share it with my kids if they were looking to learn more about the LGTBQI+ community and feel comfortable with using it as a resource? 4100%!
